The Creative Rabbit Trail
Because of a new friend, I am once again excited about helping others build and optimize their businesses using social media and on-line marketing sites such as www.manta.com , www.merchantcircle.com , www.yellowpages.com, and so forth. Since I am fairly new to the process myself, I constantly research marketing and entrepreneur sites. In the course of a day, I might read 40 articles, tweet several and write my own summary of two or three. I like to check each resource and follow the links to see where each leads. I guess my main purpose in spending time this way is my insatiable appetite for learning. I do however have an aversion to structured classroom type classes because of the inability to wander from the main subject. Don't get me wrong, I always come back to my main topic of research but I enjoy the trip so to speak. My granddaughter was once criticized by her mom for the way she could completely turn a well organized room into a seeming chaotic mess. As soon as I heard the complaint, I said " she walks in and says, what will I wear for the dance on Saturday?" she throws her closet opened, pulls out a few possible outfits. Then she thinks, "I'll have to see if I have nail polish to match." and pulls out her nail polish and quickly searched for possible color combinations. Of course she has to try a few and then needs the glitter and the decals. "I know, that necklace mom got for me will match, where is it?" as she pulls out several jewelry boxes and in the meantime comes across two or three possible bracelets. "I had a pair of shoes that will look great and maybe this purse…..wait, I can design something and make my own bracelet! Here are the beads, where is the package of links I bought?" Maybe if I try on my outfit, I can FaceTime 'Cindy' and she will have some ideas. I can set up a photo booth with these blankets and block out that annoying light coming in the window. I'll just drag the bench over here…. on and on it goes. Within half an hour, the room is pulled apart but it is all for a bigger purpose, all related and all very, very necessary . I understand completely. Now what was I talking about? Oh yeah, my friend is starting a new business.
